Out Of Your Head Records is proud to announce the release of “Dream Up,” the latest groundbreaking work from acclaimed drummer and composer Tomas Fujiwara. Known for his dynamic presence on the New York creative music scene, Fujiwara now turns his visionary artistry to the percussive universe, presenting a suite that explores the boundless possibilities of rhythm, texture, and collective expression.

“Dream Up” is a suite composed specifically for a unique percussion quartet, featuring top-tier collaborators including vibraphonist Patricia Brennan, taiko drummer Kaoru Watanabe, percussionist Tim Keiper, and Fujiwara himself. Drawing inspiration from his multifaceted career—including his years as a performer with Stomp, his ensemble work with groups like Triple Double, 7 Poets Trio, and Shizuko, and his deep engagement with the contemporary jazz, experimental, and improvised music communities—Fujiwara crafts a narrative in sound that is as adventurous as it is evocative.

Each of the nine compositions in “Dream Up” (“Mobilize,” “Blue Pickup,” “Komorebi,” “Recollection of a Dance,” “Ritual Pace,” “Columns of Leaning Paint,” “Tapestry,” and “You Don’t Have to Try”) forms a chapter in a larger, immersive journey. The suite celebrates storytelling, history, memory, and culture, weaving them together through the transformative power of rhythm and the vibrant voices of four percussionists at the peak of their creative powers.

Commissioned by NYSCA and Roulette Intermedium, “Dream Up” stands as a testament to Fujiwara’s unyielding commitment to innovation, his nuanced compositional style, and his ability to create compelling music that is at once intricate and deeply human. As the percussive textures unfold, listeners are invited to experience a kaleidoscope of sounds, from shimmering vibraphones to resonant taiko drums and intricate drum set interplay—a true celebration of contemporary percussion.
