*2024 stock* This is simply a masterclass in atmosphere, sounds, guitar and occasional vocals. Not an update on Velvet Underground, more like what an interstellar voyage with a VU soundtrack might sound like if it took place in 2023. And so it begins: Anika eats liquid stardust during her one-off performance at the Zeiss-Großplanetarium in Berlin. It is also a journey into your inner self and at the same time the logical progression of the best cosmic music ever created in Berlin. Think Ash Ra Temple, Agitation Free and Harmonia, to name but a few.

Think of the German OHR sub-label "Kosmische Kuriere" and their press release in 1972: "First we spread our music, later we expand into a more beautiful world." Anika's live performance is based on the style of Kosmische Musik, which was often instrumental and characterised by "spacy", ambient soundscapes. In an environment that simulates travelling to the stars in the Zeiss-Großplanetarium, it begins with multi-layered synthesizer sounds, interrupted and supplemented by occasional vocals and lots of Manuel Götting-like guitar patterns. And a bit of bass guitar from Sally Whitton on "Climb On-Board".

It's a shame we can't immerse ourselves in the stunning planetarium image projections created especially for the "Live Radiant" concert series, but think of the famous "stargate" sequence from Kubrick's "2001 - A Space Odyssey" and you're not even halfway there. All the songs on "Eat Liquid" enrich a sound experience that is as cosmic as it can get in your room with a record player, a set of speakers, an amplifier and this wonderful, stunning live album by Anika on limited edition vinyl.
