Across the group's 20 year history, Martin Archer and Hervé Perez have never allowed Inclusion Principle to stand still.

The group's first (eponymous) 2006 album was an unedited minimalist live improvisation of the duo on violin and laptops. This was followed four years later by The Leaf Factory Fallback – a recording of a laptop driven live gig with some subsequent studio overdubs and enhancements. By the time 2015's Third Opening was released, the group had expanded to a trio with the addition of drummer Peter Fairclough. We moved towards a more rhythmic jazz beats direction and started performing as a trio.

The group's Arkiv collection offers downloads of more than 40 live performances from this period. With The 4, The 8, The 10 released in 2021 – the group has returned to core duo format. This release emphasises electronic rhythms and features jazz lines and saxophone solos. This is the first time we record in separate studios and since have increasingly used written melodies and structures. Jump forward to 2025 for a series of 4 download only releases, each of them almost full album length. With these carefully planned albums, the group deliberately explored the widest range of instruments, structures and ideas available to both players.

The duo has retained a freshness across this 20 year period which could be attributed to the fact that we plan each recording session by discussing aesthetic, instrumentation and working process rather than the music itself. And so the new collection - post_[*] - arrives very hot on the heels of the 2025 EPs. The source electronics improvisations which the duo recorded during 2025 were extensive and highly creative, and it was clear to us that one long improvisation would serve as a perfect basis for our next album. In recognition of the group's 20th anniversary this CD release is no doubt our most ambitious work to date.

What you hear on post_[*] is a single continuous improvisation for the duo's laptop, synths, keys and devices, subsequently edited. We then orchestrated the new arrangements with composed parts and improvised horn sections. We decided to return to an idea which we'd been hoping to realise for a number of years, and feature a number of special guest musicians on drums, bass, guitar and trumpet. These recordings have been finessed via Hervé's very detailed and focused production style - a forensic examination and sculpting of every single moment of every audio element present.

We think the result is an excellent representation of the Inclusion Principle sound developed over the past two decades into its most perfect expression to date.
