*20 copies limited edition* Melantónia presents its first album on the label, a concept LP produced in Matera and inspired by the rock sedimentation process in which the southern Italian city was built. Strata is an experimental electronic music composition combining electro-acoustic improvisation with cutting-edge sound design. This daring project brings together a collective of accomplished musicians and sound designers, who have crafted an immersive auditory experience, building upon the iterative processes.

Drawing inspiration from the gradual accumulation of rock strata, the album is the product of intensive electro-acoustic improvisation sessions featuring Angelo Manicone on wind instruments and Tommaso Di Marzio on percussion, enveloped by the expansive electronic soundscapes of Daniele Antezza. The intricate and evolving textures are further enhanced by the meticulous sound design of Gianmaria dell’Aera, resulting in a complex, organic sound experience. 

Originally conceived by Daniele Antezza as an art residency produced in collaboration with Noisecapes, the project embraced an iterative, process-driven approach. Each improvisation session became the foundation for the next: sounds were captured, manipulated, and layered over time, mirroring the natural process of sedimentation. Just as layers of rock form through slow accumulation, the sounds in Strata took shape over several days, growing richer, deeper, and more textured with every session.
A unique and unrepeatable body of work emerged—a series of recordings that are as fluid as they are enduring. The creative process was less about conventional composition and more about discovery, with the musicians responding in real-time to the shifting landscape of sonic possibilities. Each new layer of sound added a new dimension, a deeper resonance, transforming raw improvisations into intricate soundscapes that push the boundaries of genre and form.

After days of tireless recording, the material was carefully curated and distilled into the final LP, released by Melantonia, a Berlin-based label known for its innovative approach to sound art.
