Hailing from Viterbo in north western Italy, Alya Serpentis are a duo performing neofolk/dark folk. On "The Sky Falls Down", their debut release, they present a brand of neofolk that is at the same time both traditional and experimental.

"The Sky Falls Down" deals with the dichotomy of matter and spirit, science and religion, and man stuck in the middle. Alya Serpentis make their unusual sound into a vessel for the mystery, wonder and dismay of a world that on one hand defies and exceeds description, but on the other never lives up to expectations. Shifting between dreamy, melancholic, absurd, haunting and just plain weird atmospheres, "The Sky Falls Down" captures man seeking reason in a world that keeps her truths hidden.

Built around the classic neofolk foundation of calmly strummed acoustic guitar and haunting, melancholic melodies, Alya Serpentis add layers of experimentation and even psychedelia with ample use of synthesizers and synth sounds unusual for the genre. This gives "The Sky Falls Down" a unique, almost dreamy perspective on the genre. For fans of classic neofolk acts such as Death In June, Sol Invictus, Sonne Hagal and :Of The Wand And The Moon: - especially if they're not averse to a bit of progressive psychedelia a'la Pink Floyd.
