Peter Crossley-Holland recorded the Tibetan volumes of the UNESCO Collection among refugees in India in the years after 1959, when the monastic traditions of Lhasa were being reconstituted in Dharamsala and the Himalayan hill towns, and Tibet I is the first: monastic chant with the long trumpets, the dungchen, the cymbals and the double-reed gyaling, the overtone-heavy low chanting of the Gyütö and Gyümé monks that Western composers spent the following decades trying to reproduce.

These were the first high-quality recordings of Tibetan ritual music widely available in the West, and their influence on the drone and minimalist scenes is a matter of record. German pressing, Bärenreiter-Musicaphon BM 30 L series, booklet.
