He stretches his arms towards the sky. He opens his mouth, and from it radiates the blinding light of swallowed suns. He howls — he shouts — he roars: words that crackle like fire. Words that unravel worlds. Words that hew, from ancient rock and staves oaken wood, hymns of hypnotic grandeur, liminal laments, and solemn songs of comfort, solace, and transformation. Un Monolito en llamas quiebra el Horizonte is a 36-minute ritual folk music meditation, propelled into ecstasy by the hypnotic thud of drums, and subtly serrated by jagged-edged industrial influences. The album leads us from the abysmal darkness of the deepest caves, through their crooked fog-veiled arms that spread like branches seeking life-giving light. It lifts us skyward and lets us rise into the brilliant-rayed embrace of the Sun.
