André Boucourechliev
André Boucourechliev (1925-1997) was a French composer and writer on music, born in Sofia, Bulgaria, who settled in Paris in 1949 and died there. Trained first as a pianist, he became one of the composers of the 1960s who handed real choices to the performer. He is best known for the Archipel series of the late 1960s, open works whose sections the players order and shape in performance. Boucourechliev studied piano in Sofia and at the École Normale de Musique de Paris, where he later taught.
