condition (record/cover): NM / EX Archipel 4 by André Boucourechliev exists in two different Philips pressings within the catalog, testimony to an editorial practice that now seems remote: the same repertoire reissued, remastered, repackaged for different markets. The differences between the two editions are probably minimal, but for the collector every variant counts.
The fourth archipelago expands the project: more islands, more possible routes, greater navigational complexity. Boucourechliev never abandoned this geographical metaphor. For him, composing meant creating territories to explore rather than paths to follow. The disc fixes one of infinite possible crossings; another night would have yielded entirely different results. Both pressings preserve options rather than outcomes.
