Daniel O'Sullivan is an English multi-instrumentalist, composer and producer from Manchester, working between experimental rock, drone and improvised music. He is a member of the Norwegian group Ulver and earlier played keyboards in Guapo. He also records under his own name and as Mothlite, and is known for shared projects such as Æthenor, Grumbling Fur and Miracle. Daniel O'Sullivan's years in Guapo included the group's records for Cuneiform and Ipecac. The group Æthenor released its albums on VHF Records between 2006 and 2011.
On KKKAAARRREEENNNIIINNNAAA, Charlemagne Palestine, Oren Ambarchi and Daniel O’Sullivan turn a 1997 “magic song” for a beloved dog’s spirit into a towering trio ritual. Organ drones, phase‑drifting cassette voices, Leslie‑swirled guitar and viola blooms coil around Palestine’s keening live chant, forming a single, dense, ecstatic invocation that feels like a séance conducted inside a vibrating cathedral.
Second LP of duets by these longtime VHF family staples, here delivering 2 side-long epics of “minimalist” bliss. Both sides feature Daniel O'Sullivan on piano and Richard Youngs on zither, with rippling waves of sound recalling classics like Charlemagne Palestine’s “Strumming Music” (Dan is a frequent collaborator with C.P.) and Richard’s “Advent.” “Persian Carpets I” is a real-humans performance full of tiny variants in rhythm and attack, rising and falling in intensity – sometimes a rush of s…

Third in a trilogy of albums of library music miniatures from composer and multi-instrumentalist Daniel O'Sullivan (Æthenor, Ulver, This Is Not This Heat, etc.) following 2020's Electric Māyā and 2021's Fourth Density. For heads, the term 'library music' in 2021 might evoke dodgy Italian gray market LPs and crate-diggers hunting for 'funky breaks' -- but London's venerable KPM Music is working with groundbreakers like O'Sullivan to open up new avenues for composers to experiment. The fifteen tra…
