Mototeru Takagi

Country: Japan

Mototeru Takagi (1941-2002) was a Japanese tenor saxophonist and composer and a key figure of Japanese free jazz from the late 1960s on. Raised in Yokohama, he developed a forceful free style in the groups of Motoharu Yoshizawa, Masahiko Togashi and Masayuki Takayanagi. He recorded relatively little as a leader, and much of his work has surfaced in archival releases. Takagi joined the Motoharu Yoshizawa Trio in 1968 and Masahiko Togashi's quartet and ESSG in 1969, recording We Now Create (Victor, 1969) and Isolation with Togashi.
