Pekka Airaksinen

Pekka Airaksinen started making music in the late 1960's group The Sperm who combined performance art with experimental music of the day. On their records influences such as John Cage, Karlheinz Stockhausen, free jazz and psychedelic pop were filtered into rough anti-music that resembled the early industrial music and noise that would emerge elsewhere in the world some ten years later.

Mangala
Pekka Airaksinen’s Mangala is a landmark album blending experimental electronic and jazz influences, originally composed in 1986, recorded in 1998, and remixed for its 2015 reissue. The LP features five expansive works, including the title track Mangala, which Airaksinen described as capturing moods reminiscent of Miles Davis and Urban Sax at the Pori Jazz Festival. The album’s soundworld is complex, timeless, and immersive, with King of Snakes symbolizing the force that overcomes evil. This rel…
Vitae Tennis Nest
Pekka Airaksinen’s Vitae Tennis Nest, released by One Point Life, is a striking journey through avant-garde piano and experimental electronics. Recorded in 1998 and remixed in 2015, the album’s first side features solo piano works that channel the improvisational freedom of Cecil Taylor and Lennie Tristano, the mechanical complexity of Conlon Nancarrow, the ritualistic pulse of Igor Stravinsky’s Les Noces, and the hypnotic repetition of Philip Glass. These compositions are marked by intricate, r…
Love And Addiction
Pekka Airaksinen’s Love’N Addiction, composed in 1978 and released over a decade later under the alias McDullan, is a daring sonic exploration of sex and drugs-intentionally leaving out rock’n’roll, despite the title’s playful hint. The album’s soundscape is cold, mechanical, and at times abrasive, conjuring the sensation of two dinosaur computers conversing or Jean-Jacques Perrey and Gershon Kingsley on a bad acid trip. Closely related to Airaksinen’s Vitamins in both era and approach, Love’N A…

Other Power
**Absolutely incredible early 80's spiralling DX-7 synth vortices and exotic 808 drum machine hallucinations - limited edition of 500 copies** Stunning Finnish electro-jazz-psychedelia from '78-'85 rescued from the tape archives of The Sperm's Pekka Airaksinen. This definitely isn't Harmönia's usual Skweee fayre, yet neatly contextualises their wave of quirkily futurist (often absurd) electro-fonk in line with Pekka's pioneering work experimenting with drum machines and synths, perhaps be…
One Point Music
Amazing unlikely limited edition reissue of this legendary obscure private press LP that remains one of the most elusive and highly sought-after recordings ever to escape the Nurse With Wound list. Pekka Airaksinen was a member of the equally elusive Sperm, whose amazing 1970 Shh! LP on O Records recently got the reissue treatment. One Point Music goes even further than that outré side with a series of heavily rhythmic/percussive electro/primitive jams that almost comes over like a Cromag…
Madam I'm Adam
2015 restock. The music of of the Finnish experimental music pioneer Pekka Airaksinen has been far ahead of it's time for most of his 40-year long career. His finest recordings from the 60's are more reminiscent of Industrial Music and Noise (which would emerge ten years later) than of the music of his precursors and contemporaries. Later, in the early 80's, few people, if any, were mixing mechanic beats and free jazz like he did. Favourable conditions for this kind of music didn't really exist …
