Phill Niblock (1933 to 2024) was a New York minimalist composer, filmmaker and photographer, and for decades the director of Experimental Intermedia, the foundation and loft on Centre Street where much of the downtown avant-garde was heard. His music is made of long tones played by acoustic instruments, recorded, layered and tuned slightly apart, and played back loud enough that the beating between them fills the room and the body. His films, above all The Movement of People Working, show manual labour around the world in long, unhurried shots and were screened alongside the music.
