Rod Modell
Rod Modell is a sound designer and electronic producer from the Detroit area who began making music in the mid 1980s with analogue synthesizers and drum machines. He is best known as DeepChord, started with Mike Schommer at the end of the 1990s, and as half of Echospace with Stephen Hitchell: two names that carried dub techno, the hazy, chord-driven sound of Basic Channel, into a new decade. The Coldest Season (2007) and the DeepChord albums for Modern Love and Soma made his approach recognisable: long, slowly shifting tracks built from field recordings, tape hiss and reverb as much as from the beat, music for headphones and empty streets.
