Roy Haynes
Roy Haynes (1925-2024) was an American jazz drummer from Roxbury, Boston. His career ran from the bebop era into the 21st century, and he played with Lester Young, Charlie Parker, Sarah Vaughan and John Coltrane. His crisp, unpredictable drumming earned him the nickname "Snap Crackle" in the 1950s. Haynes joined Lester Young's band in 1947, was in Charlie Parker's quintet from 1949 to 1952 and then spent five years with Sarah Vaughan. In the 1960s he often took Elvin Jones's place in the John Coltrane Quartet.
