Syd Barrett

Syd Barrett (1946-2006) was an English singer, songwriter and guitarist from Cambridge. He co-founded Pink Floyd in 1965, gave the band its name and was its frontman and main songwriter on the 1967 debut The Piper at the Gates of Dawn. He left the group in 1968, made two solo albums in 1970 and then withdrew from music and public life. Barrett recorded The Madcap Laughs with help from members of Pink Floyd and Soft Machine, with David Gilmour and Roger Waters producing some of the sessions.
