Walter Maioli, born in Milan in 1950, is an Italian researcher, paleorganologist, multi-instrumentalist and composer who has spent more than thirty-five years studying the music of antiquity and prehistory. Specialised in experimental archaeology, he reconstructs and plays the instruments of archaic civilisations, and has explored the folk traditions of the Mediterranean, learning Arabic, African, Asian and European music since the early 1970s. He was a member of the group Aktuala, then founded Futuro Antico, joining synthesizers to ancient and ethnic instruments, and later Synaulia, which recreates the music of ancient Rome for films.
