Phantom Broadcast
Following the records made in collaboration with Francisco López and the instrumental ensemble Zeitkratzer, John Duncan returns to solo work and to exploring further the sound source he's always preferred, shortwave. We know nothing about the actual radio transmission that Duncan picked up on 18 April 2002 in the course of a single recording that gave life to this work. Only shadows remain, taking on the aspect of bells, resonating into infinity, together with reverberations and apparent choruse…
Elektrofoni: Works For Micro Intervallic Guitar 1965-1978
restocked...AWESOME REISSUE! Elektrofoni is a 3CD / 1DVD box-set which for the first time presents the ground-breaking works by Norwegian experimental composer, guitarist and micro-tonal music pioneer Bjørn Fongaard (1919-1980). The box-set is produced by Lars Mørch Finborud og Lasse Marhaug of Prisma Records. The seeds to the Elektrofoni box-set began when Lasse Marhaug a few years ago found a copy of the old Electronic Music From Norway LP compilation at a second-hand record store in St…
Ode
Brand new solo release for guitarist Nicola Ratti with his languid, disarming sound of small and gentle gestures and loping rhythms, often repeated and subtly shifting in an impressionistic vision founded on traditional elements. Merging guitar, piano and double bass with percussion, environmental sounds and occasional voice, Nicola constructs songs that by turns float, swell and envelop in magnetic fashion. A piercing tenderness remains at the core of his work, though on Ode there is a more exp…

Variations For Piano & Tape
Comprised of one 44 minute track, Variation #9 'Pantelleria,' this archival release is one of my all-time favorites of the piano and tape variations from the early eighties. Using a lilting piano melody on a small loop, the requisite magic happened in the recording process when this particular loop would randomly slip along the play head revealing an extraordinary counterpoint (in reverse) on the other side of the tape. To me, this piece evokes a lazy Arcandian summer idyll, and will alwa…
Scalpel
Aidan Baker has tried his hand in many different areas of music and it’s always amazing to here the outcome, as more often than not the results are excellent. There have been records that dabble more in psych, kraut, ambient, drone, and so on. However here on Scalpel, Baker has combined a familiar ambiance within his body of work with folk music for something that is loosely being dubbed as his “folk/drone” album. I really didn’t know what to make of that at first. I suppose a descri…
Theology
"The CD "Theology" contains the source recordings used for the LP "The Religious Experience", and is limited to 450 copies. The two albums and their music should be considered as mirror opposites. Where theology is a completely artificial system of belief, a religious experience is the immediate experience of the thing itself. Likewise, the music on "Theology" is complex and elaborate, while "The Religious Experience" is much simpler, going directly to the heart of the material compri…
L\'Aiguille Du Dru
Amazing release: Creating an after-the-fact transition between early electric jazz and contemporary electronic washes, Dru is made up of David Maranha (organ), Manuel Mota (electric guitar) and Riccardo Dillon Wanke (electric piano). Initial impressions are something like a slowed-down, percussionless (and trumptetless!) version of Bitches Brew. The keyboards create slow-changing washes of texture while Mota's clean-and-warm-sounding guitar interjects chords and thoughtful melodic fragments. Eac…

Sound poetry and other text sound experiments from Sweden from the 60's.Lars-Gunnar Bodin, Ilmar Laaban, Sten Hanson, Ake Hodell, Bengt Emil Johnson.
Jean Tinguely
Awesome and obscure release, the music on this disc is a collection of awesome noisy sound works establishing Tinguely in the tradition of Luigi Russolo’s noise machines or John Cage’s Imaginary Landscapes. Tinguely’s sculptures rotating parts create awkward rhythm patterns, metallic rattlings and loud percussion sounds, more often than not on the verge of falling apart. Similar sounds can be heard in Jean-Marc Vivenza’s robust take on ‘bruitisme’ or Pierre Bastien’s self-build mecano instrument…
ear(th)
beautiful catalogue + cd edition, the cd contains a field recording of the installation ear(th), which was a collaboration with two scientists from cal tech - Ann Polsenberg-Thomas, and Mark Simons. The installation consisted of an 8' x 16' x 24' wooden structure with 80 robots on the roof that would strike glockenspiel bars based on data translating an image of an earthquake. It was comissioned by the Williamson Gallery at Art center college of design for The tender land festival. The CD was d…
Getting It Together In The Country
Very rare, original and now long deleted 10"  by Canadian artist Rodney Graham, a conceptual artist and long time Bruce Nauman associate that  subverts distinctions of format and genre, and the result is an entertaining and intelligent artist's ''book.'' "Getting it Together in the Country" consists of an LP and an extensive text insert. The LP contains recordings of Graham improvising on the guitar to the legendarily surrealistic mass love scene Michelangelo Antonioni's film "Zabriskie Poi…
One stone and arcs and ears
