Trio were three men from the Lower Saxon village of Großenkneten who, in 1982, accidentally conquered the world with Da Da Da, a song built from little more than a cheap Casio preset and a shrug. Bye Bye (1983), their second album and the home of Anna, distills their creed of Neue Deutsche Fröhlichkeit, "new German cheerfulness," into the barest possible rock: guitar, drums, deadpan voice, and not much else.
Produced by Klaus Voormann, the old Beatles associate, it is funnier and stranger than its hit single lets on. The German edition was sold with a near-blank cover carrying paid advertisements, the proceeds donated to Greenpeace. On Mercury.
