*100 copies limited edition* In December 2023, dj sniff (US/JP), Mariam Rezaei (UK), SlowPitchSound (CA), and DJ Rex Chen (TW) met for the first time in Taipei to take part in "ex-DJ," a music program curated by dj sniff for the Taipei Biennial. The aim of this project was to highlight a musical practice that equally drew influences from experimental music, free improvisation, and hip hop. This collaborative initiative unfolded over a 10-day period within the Taipei Fine Arts Museum's specially designed "music room," engulfed in blue felt.
Produced in a limited run of 100 cassette tapes, this release documents the recording sessions and concert that took place in the music room. The recording sessions occurred during the museum's regular opening hours, allowing visitors to freely enter and observe. "Side A: Sessions" is constructed from various moments from these sessions. The concert featured a 90-minute program that included solos, duos, and a quartet. Each performer was stationed in a different area of the music room, each with their own PA system. This setup created a decentralized stage, enabling audience members to freely roam and explore the space between the performers. "Side B: Concert" captures the turntable quartet performed at the end of this concert, serving as the grand finale to the entire project.
