Chicago, 1969, and one of the earliest documents of the AACM to reach a record shop. Maurice McIntyre, who would later record as Kalaparusha, plays tenor with a raw, keening, deliberately unpolished sound that owes something to Coltrane and a good deal more to the blues he grew up around. Humility In The Light Of Creator came out on Delmark, the Chicago label that took the AACM seriously when nobody else did, and it has the loose, exploratory, faintly ceremonial quality that runs through all the best of that first wave. Long forms, collective playing, and an absolute refusal to hurry.
