Limited transparent yellow vinyl edition of 500. l Medico della Mutua, composed by Piero Piccioni in 1968, delivers a brilliant soundtrack that fuses jazz, easy listening, and orchestral flourishes, mirroring the satirical verve of the film. Themes shift from playful marches to sultry tangos, amplifying both the absurdity and energy of the Italian medical system’s cinematic parody.

Limited edition numbered to 500 copies. Yellow vinyl format / 180 grams + CD. Released in 1968, “Il medico della mutua” (The Doctor of the Mutual Insurance) is one of the sharpest and most bittersweet comedies in Italian cinema. The film stars Alberto Sordi as Dr. Guido Tersilli, an unscrupulous Roman physician who climbs the professional ladder by exploiting the public healthcare system with ruthless irony. Directed by Luigi Zampa, the film offers a lucid and sarcastic portrait of Italy during the economic boom — a country racing toward modernity, yet flaunting all its moral contradictions.

Giving musical voice to this social satire is Piero Piccioni, one of the undisputed masters of Italian film music. His score for “Il medico della mutua” perfectly captures his elegant and sophisticated style: smooth jazz, orchestral groove, and an ironic touch that mirrors the double nature of the protagonist — respectable on the surface, opportunistic at heart. The main theme is instantly recognizable: a swinging, light motif supported by brass and a syncopated rhythm that reflects the frantic life of Dr. Tersilli. It’s a melody that seems to smile, yet hides a subtle layer of social criticism beneath its charm. With his trademark finesse, Piccioni paints a portrait of the Italy of the 1960s — that of bourgeois salons, ambition, and compromise — using the language of light music infused with jazz and bossa nova. In its more intimate moments, the score turns melancholic, with piano and string harmonies that remind us how, beneath the farce, lies a fragile and slightly hypocritical humanity. That’s Piccioni’s greatest strength: his ability to be ironic without ever becoming superficial.
