On occasion of its 50-year anniversary, CAM Sugar is proud to present the ultimate edition of Travolti da un insolito destino nell’azzurro mare d’agosto aka Swept Away, one of the definitive scores by Piero Piccioni, for which he received the prestigious Italian award David di Donatello. An Italian soundtrack masterpiece and must-have. The soundtrack matches the exotic setting of the film. It encompasses breezy, languid and summery compositions defined by Maestro Piccioni’s unmistakable Mediterranean and jazzy touch on samba, bossa nova and lounge music, where Afro and Latin-edged percussions and vibraphone are at play with layers of Hammond organ, gorgeous acoustic guitars, and enhanced by wordless vocals by Nora Orlandi, in the best 1960s and 1970s Italian cinematic tradition.
The score doesn’t however compromise on orchestral, mood-setting and romantic highlights, as well as eerie and enigmatic synth-leaden instrumentals. The long compositions form an almost surreal, hazy stream of sound that paints the soundscape to the desert island that defines the film’s storyline.
