On Invisible, Mike Majkowski delivers a set of six immersive compositions situated at the intersection of ambient dub and textural electronica. Spanning 2019 to 2025, the album’s subtly evolving loops and enveloping atmospheres invite a deep listening experience, foregrounding mood and sonic presence over melodic statement.

*200 copies limited edition* Australian composer and double bassist Mike Majkowski enters a new artistic chapter with his debut release for Hands in the Dark Records, Invisible. Stretching across six meticulously constructed pieces crafted between 2019 and 2025, the album navigates the slippery terrain between ambient dub, experimental electronica, and the tactile grit of loop-driven minimalism. However, Majkowski resists the gravitational pull of genre labels—Invisible is very much a document of process, presence, and careful deconstruction, inviting listeners to place themselves between the seen and unseen, the heard and imagined.

Across these works, Majkowski sets used sonic materials adrift, intertwining pulses and spectral textures that ripple with subtle instability. There’s a sense of meditative patience—each track is a world unto itself, evolving gradually through hypnotic layering and deft manipulation of timbre. Yet beneath the meditative surfaces, tension abides: traces of dub’s expansive low end surface through the static, while purposefully fragmentary loops evoke both urban decay and a digital kind of nostalgia. Instead of the overt drama of much post-everything electronica, Majkowski’s restraint and attention to micro-detail call to mind the sustained patience of Éliane Radigue or Kassel Jaeger, threaded through with an undercurrent of far-off rhythmic suggestion.

While Invisible dwells largely in abstraction, it is never impersonal. The music displays a palpable sense of tactile, hands-on exploration; sounds seem to emerge from the careful friction between intuition and control. The result is an album that rewards immersive listening, inviting both solitary introspection and communal drift—a balance of presence and distance, surface and depth. Anyone attuned to the constantly shifting boundaries of experimental sound will find in this record an invitation to recalibrate what it means for music to occupy space, to move with patience through a world defined by fleeting phenomena and layered realities.
