2010 release ** "This part of Martin Vognsen’s SCATAW project features a trio with Yasuhiro Yoshigaki (drummer in Altered States, Otomo Yoshihide’s New Jazz Orchestra, ROVO) and Kumiko Takara (percussionist in Bondage Fruit, P.O.N., Warehouse). Spontaneously created on miscellaneous percussion, semi-acoustic dobro and sparse electronics the music takes improvisation through a fresh mix of crisp sounds, meticulous rhythms and enigmatic melodies. Together the 10 distinctive tracks compose a highly dynamic suite of ramshackle, raw, rattling musical energy. The birth of this project - State Changes According To A Wind - was the result of a number of circumstances. These circumstances came together in my head in the form of an idea. When this happened, I happened to be on a bridge crossing the river Jordan. So the project is not about this place, and the titles are not trivial bridge metaphores. But somehow the place must have affected the idea. In a way, it's a random location, but at the same time significant. When I finally was able to meet with the musicians in the studio, I had this idea about what the project was. I thought about how to communicate it, and finally decided that the best way would be to simply play. Hardly a word was exchanged, nothing was written down, the engineer just started the tape and we started playing. At the end of the day, what I had was not only exactly the material I needed in order to realize the idea, which can be heard on Allenby Bridge Crossing Point, but also a CD's worth of music in it's own right. So I decided to release this session as a separate CD under the title King Hussein Bridge. The two albums are like siblings that are clearly related, but have taken off in very different directions. More than anything, King Hussein Bridge is a testimony to the unparalleled musical sensitivity and dedication of Yasuhiro Yoshigaki and Kumiko Takara. I thank them both. The fact that the bridge has two names, depending on which direction you travel, only seemed to fit in with the idea. So what is this idea I am talking about? I have thought about this question. In the studio the best way to communicate it proved to be simply to play. So that will be my answer now as well: Simply play the CD."
