Loveland Music presents 8, a studio recording featuring an all-star ensemble of Jakob Bro, Brian Blade, Craig Taborn, Chris Cheek, Jesper Zeuthen, Anders Christensen, Larry Grenadier & Marcus Gilmore, playing compositions by Paul Motian and Jakob Bro. The album was recorded in a single session at New York's Power Station with engineer James Farber, following a week-long residency at the Village Vanguard.

"Danish guitarist and composer Jakob Bro is celebrated for his pure reflective expression and penchant for celestial textures, effortlessly distilling and refining quiet sonics. At the Village Vanguard, he leads an impressive group – featuring two bassists and two drummers – for a nearly week-long residency. The perfectly poised, ambient-leaning soundworld that characterizes Bro's compositions was discomposed and distended by this octet, probing thrilling sounds and providing ample opportunity to create spontaneously. It was an exhilarating jazz night with some of the most esteemed players out there." - Jazztrail.net

“In addition to being actual collaborators, Jakob Bro and Paul Motian were very much musically birds-of-a-feather, with their talent for commingling tranquility and chaos being just one similarity. Crafting melodies that cut to the heart is another. These are the two qualities that predominantly inform the latest from Bro, performing some original pieces and some from the departed collaborator. The guitarist—joined by saxophonists Chris Cheek and Jesper Zeuthen; pianist Craig Taborn; double bassists Larry Grenadier and Anders Christensen; and drummers Marcus Gilmore and Brian Blade—carried the live performance energy of a week-long residency at the Village Vanguard into the studio for this recording. I was torn between embedding the lovely Bro composition “Saturday” and the ensemble’s rendition of Motian’s “It Should’ve Happened a Long Time Ago;” both speak eloquently to the heart of the album.” - Dave Sumner
