Radical Dutch DIY artist/musician Raymond Dijkstra presents an album of personal sonic dramas for Dekorder. With countless self-released CD and vinyls he constructed a fascinating sonic universe for himself. This will be his most widely available release for some time, consisting of two extended improvisational enigmas using harmonium, scraping metal and glass, tuba, and strings to make an odd racket. He employs methods similar to "Automatic Writing" or "Surrealist Automatism" to channel his ideas via the instruments, resulting in an unpredictable, tranced-out and emotionally charged compositions liable to veer in whatever direction his digits desire. He chooses these methods partly in response to the perceived dryness and restrictions of so many other experimental musicians who, he feels, don't explore fully the potential of their chosen subject. With this in mind Dijkstra is free to grapple with his instruments and sensitively smudge them with effects until it all coalesces and it sounds like we're hearing the birth noises of a mythical, mechanical forest creature dreamt up by Pierre Schaeffer and Ted Hughes.
