*In process of stocking. 100 copies limited edition* Primordial Void is proud to present the latest full-length release from Catalan artist Andreu G. Serra, better known as Ubaldo. ‘la nit es fosca, però estic bé’ consists of two 22-minute pieces for guitar, field recordings, and autotuned voice. Seriously gorgeous, melancholic stuff that recalls Godspeed You! Black Emperor’s more somber moments.
The album is divided into four acts. Serra began recording guitar parts for the album in the early stages of the pandemic, later adding field recordings and vocal tracks in 2021 and 2022. The finishing touches came courtesy of legendary Spanish composer Suso Sáiz, who recorded guitars and various sounds in April and May of this year. “The vocals and field recordings appear to delimit the extended guitar parts in a free and sporadic way, giving more layers to this story,” Serra says. “Sáiz’s subtle contributions in the second act, ‘s'apaga la necessitat (salbutamol era)’, add a foggy atmosphere and gives the piece a solid body, while reaching a cloudy climax.”
Serra clearly has a knack for creating otherworldly soundscapes, and this fifth album under the Ubaldo moniker contains some of his most enchanting material to date. It’s delicate, slow-moving ambient with a touch of pop-infused futurism.
