The one they couldn't release. 聖水ライブ1989 (Seisui Live 1989) is the most notorious live document in the entire Hijokaidan archive, video footage of a concert at Osaka's Eggplant on 19 August 1989 that has circulated as legend for decades.
By the late 1980s the group's lineup had settled around the classic trio of Jojo Hiroshige, Junko and Toshiji Mikawa, with Futoshi Okano on drums, and their shows still carried the full charge of the performance-art chaos that made their name. This particular night sits at the outer limit of even their reputation. The set climaxes in the act of onstage urination - the "holy water" of the title - that remains the single most legendary and most divisive moment in the band's history, captured amid a deafening wall of noise on a stage already in ruins.
The footage was deemed too extreme to include in Hijokaidan's major-label retrospective box, and a broadcaster who once aired part of it reportedly paid for it with his job. A document of Japanese noise as total, unrepentant spectacle. Issued on Alchemy Records as a DVD.
