Before the internet made everything findable, cassette culture thrived in the shadows — a self-organised network of micro-labels, bedroom studios and mail-order lists connecting isolated experimenters across continents. Mondo Industrial reaches into that world and surfaces eleven tracks sourced from tapes so obscure that most have never been heard outside their original, minuscule circulations. The compilation draws from releases on Nihilistic Recordings, Harsh Reality, Cauchy Productions, Cafardage, Illusion Production, Watergate Tapes, Afterbirth Records, IEP and Out Of Nowhere — labels that existed at the absolute margins of the already-marginal industrial and experimental scene of the 1980s and early 1990s. The music is correspondingly uncompromising: harsh noise, concrete sound, primitive electronics and ritual industrial, with contributions from artists spanning France, Germany, the Netherlands, Japan and Latin America.

Contributors include Kinexus Stringenus, Bernard C., Winter, Lyke Wake, Varoshi Fame, Toshiyuki Hiraoka, Mortification To The Flesh, Louis Pasteur, Det Wiehl, Nox and A Violated Body. These recordings were never made for mass audiences — they document a moment when the underground was genuinely underground, hidden, strange and indifferent to anything beyond its own internal logic. Pressed on vinyl for the first time, Mondo Industrial gives this material the permanence it was always denied.
