London-based label Diagonal is proud to announce the release of Normification, an ambitious new project by renowned sound artists Florian Hecker and Marcin Pietruszewski. Conceived as a multidisciplinary exploration between design, algorithms, and sound, Normification arrives as a deluxe 2CD package, accompanied by two 16-page booklets designed by acclaimed Zurich-based studio NORM.
At the core of the project lies the radical idea of translating graphic design procedures and algorithmic processes into sound synthesis and composition. Rather than traditional sonification, Hecker and Pietruszewski explore the notion of “normification,” pushing beyond the literal to create an experimental auditory display of form, function, and process. The result is a staggering 115-track work, mastered by legendary sound engineer Rashad Becker, that defies conventional listening formats and instead unfolds as a dynamic and evolving textural environment. Designed as both an audio and visual experience, the booklets by NORM contextualize the sonic material within the realm of graphic abstraction, deepening the dialogue between sight and sound.
