United Bible Studies is an experimental and improvisational folk band from Ireland, with members in the UK. There are a few core members such as David Colohan as well as a host of incidental contributors on both the live performances and studio albums.
Pastoral psychedelia and traditional song have remained the cornerstones of the band's style, alongside collective improvisation that can take the form of extended drone-works or explosive outbursts of ecstatic noise. The lineup currently includes former Mellow Candle vocalist Alison O'Donnell, Gavin Prior (Sabre Series), harpist Áine O'Dwyer and Michael Tanner (Plinth, Sharron Kraus, Mark Fry). 'Spoicke' (2014) is arcane, psychedelic and haunting with subtle electronic soundscapes. The music dwells in the sacred and in the eerie, forging a place in mystical dimensions of sound. Recommended to fans of a.o. Erik Satie, Dirty Three, Arvo Pärt or Dead Can Dance, this edition is limited to 199 hand-numbered copies on solid white vinyl and features engraved silkscreen artwork.
