Edition of 1000 hand-numbered copies.

Debut Records was founded by Charles Mingus and Max Roach because no established label would let them record what they wanted, and its catalogue is one of the most interesting artefacts of fifties independence. John La Porta was a clarinettist and alto player out of the Woody Herman band who had studied with Schillinger and worked with the Lennie Tristano circle, which put him in the small group of players trying to bring formal compositional thinking into jazz. With Louis Mucci on trumpet, this is cool-school chamber jazz of real intelligence: contrapuntal, carefully written, and much livelier than that description suggests.

Pressing of the Debut album. Musicians' label, musicians' music, and a genuinely scarce corner of the catalogue.
