The Italian Sagittarius A-Star label built its reputation on doing things nobody sane would attempt, and The Zebra Box is the proof. A four-LP set gathering the mid-2010s archival and live material issued by the label under SAS #43, #44 and #45, wrapped up with an extra record and a front cover showing Idris Ackamoor in full zebra attire. The music runs from Ackamoor's duo work with pianist Hakeem Muhammad to The Collective, the Antioch College group that would become the Pyramids: alto saxophone, tap dancing, African instruments and a spiritual-jazz seriousness that never tips over into pastiche. Handmade paste-on covers, high quality photo paper, colour postcards.
Special art edition limited to 26 copies only, each one assembled by hand. Not a reissue, not a repress, and never coming back. If you have been chasing the Sagittarius A-Star boxes, this is the end of the road.
