Paris-based experimental artist Near Stoic returns with Under the Pomegranate Shade, his third full-length album, and his second for Third Kind Records following his successful 2021 album ‘Notebook (Thoughts & Short Stories)’. His new album follows a single relationship from its sudden beginning to its equally sudden end.
The title comes from a small, vivid memory: the way his former partner's cheeks would flush the deep red of a pomegranate. The image was tied to her favorite film, Sergei Parajanov's 1969 The Color of Pomegranates. What starts as a portrait of intimacy slowly becomes a record of grief, nostalgia and, finally, acceptance.
Composed and recorded in Paris between February and March 2025, Under The Pomegranate Shade moves between quiet, contemplative passages to soaring drones. Utilizing a blend of customized wavetable synth patches, granular synthesis, and field recordings of parks and nature, creating compositions that feel both intimate and overwhelming.
