Where Trunk's book is about the objects, David Hollander's is about the people: interviews with the composers and label owners, from KPM's Alan Hawkshaw to the Italian and French operators, an essay on how the industry worked (the tape, the publisher, the cue sheet, the cheque) and a lot of previously unseen ephemera. Anthology Recordings, the archival arm of Mexican Summer, published it in 2018 with a companion compilation.
Hollander's argument is that library music was the last place in the recording industry where a composer could do anything, provided it fitted on a side and had a usable title; the composers interviewed agree. Well designed, well illustrated, and a good companion to the records that follow.
