*300 copies limited edition CD in 6-panel digisleeve* There are roads, paths that inevitably end up joining and there is not always an explanation that is dictated by a precise logic. in fact, there can be many reasons why one decides to take a common path, and in a musical world - which is extremely fragmented - one does not exclude chance or even the sum or escalation of those favourable circumstances that sometimes seem to be inevitable. Thus a simple empathic trigger was all that was needed,…
Sea Of Bliss
2024 Repress. First ever vinyl edition of the landmark 1980 cassette by synth wizard  Don Slepian. From 1970s Hawaii on to modern day New Jersey, Don Slepian has enjoyed a reputation as one of new age’s most respected and technologically-advanced synthesists.  Slepian’s 1980 landmark Sea of Bliss is frequently cited as one of new age’s greatest albums, and is one of the genre’s most legendary tape-only recordings. Two side-length Alles synthesizer tracks transport listeners to personal paradises…
Building Something Beautiful For Me
*2024 stock* In 1990, the composer Julius Eastman quietly passed away, out of the spotlight, a young man. By his death substance-addicted, homeless and broke, he was unforgivably overlooked in his lifetime. Still, the legacy of creative work he leaves is far more befitting to celebration than destitution. Only a portion of his music remains - a deeply regrettable sidenote to an already heartbreaking story - but this work represents a glorious and beautifully hued depiction of a composer totally …
Balishark
*2024 stock* Memories of life, laughter and sunrises. A multi sounds world around my friend Gigi Sambatito.
Submerge
A special ‘Submerge” 12” EP featuring a bunch of reworks of this pivotal track from Apta's forthcoming ‘The Pool’ album on Castles in Space. Kicking things off, Apta's own rework of the original sees the shadowy textures and droning wall-of-sound backdrop turned into a static-strewn dreamland of a piece, underpinned by a flickering guitar riff, cracked snare drums and fuzzed-out Odyssey strokes before launching into the euphoric half-time vocal refrain. The follow-up sees Clay Pipe boss, illustr…
Soft Selection 84 - A Nippon DIY Wave compilation
A much-cherished gem from the 1980s underground Japanese music scene returns as Soft Selection 84 is reissued by Glossy Mistakes for its 40th anniversary. Originally released on DIY label Soft, the compilation sees 13 tracks from nine acts spanning minimal, ambient, zolo and more for a beguiling listen.
From Tokyo To Naiagara
Keplar presents the first-ever vinyl edition of the 2003 album "From Tokyo to Naiagara" by Tujiko Noriko. This reissue with new artwork by Joji Koyama is an abridged version of the album as Tomlab label owner Tom Steinle and producer Aki Onda had originally intended to publish it alongside the original CD version. Written by the France-based Tujiko while she still lived in Japan, "From Tokyo to Naiagara" followed up on her two seminal Mego albums and marked a turning point in both the artist’s c…
Issue 110: Tangerine Dream (Magazine + 7", Orange)
This month's Electronic Sound cover feature is the fascinating story of Tangerine Dream's 'Phaedra' album and we're bundling the issue with an exclusive orange vinyl seven-inch featuring edits of two tracks from this groundbreaking 1974 release.  Tangerine Dream’s debut for Richard Branson’s still-shiny Virgin label, 'Phaedra' came out exactly 50 years ago and was greeted with a mixture of curiosity, excitement, confusion and contempt. While electronic music was nothing new by this point, the se…
Voyage Voyage Voyage
*100 copies limited edition* "The idea came to us during a drunken conversation in a South London pub with Philippe from the Tapeworm label," says François Kirmann Gamaury aka Franz Kirmann aka Dj Salinger - a French producer who has been based in London for over twenty years. "Voyage voyage voyage" is a mixtape. But not in the traditional sense of the word. Kirmann calls it a subjective mixtape, where the tracks are not played as they are, but presented as they are felt by the artist. A little …
Respooled
The Tapeworm celebrates its 15th anniversary in 2024. Its first tape was 2009's "Spool" by the much-missed Philip Jeck. To honour his memory, Jay Glass Dubs unwinds "Spool" in a new hour-long composition using Jeck's tape as his primary sound source. This tape was commissioned for "The Worm Rose Of Athens", two evenings of performances curated by Stellage, 1-2 March 2024, Athens. Written, recorded, produced and mixed by Dimitris Papadatos, Athens, 2024. With special thanks to Mary Prestidge.
Socha
"Music gives us a place to be lost. Washing away thought, place, time and identity. It’s in the falling into the river, the dream, that we find just who we could be”. Classically trained cellist, composer and storyteller Lihla (Lih Qun Wong) presents her debut album, ‘Socha’ for A Strangely Isolated Place. Combining a vast instrumental skillset of piano, cello, electronics and spoken word, she crafts intensely immersive aural-hallucinatory worlds of intricately shifting landscapes. A deeply pers…
Syn•Thesis
*300 copies limited edition* Once again Lino surprises us. Always a poet of silences and strictly acoustic sounds, now he offers an album where synthetic sounds are the protagonists. On the other hand, since the time of the collaborations with Franco Battiato, the VCS3 has been in the poetics of Lino and Franco. Thus, as often happens, even the new and the old are in sympathetic symbiosis. And this album is the definitive proof of this. What makes it truly incredible is that it doesn't matter wh…
Dome 3
With the demise of Wire in 1980, founding members Bruce Gilbert and Graham Lewis joined forces to create Dome. With the assistance of engineer Eric Radcliffe and his Blackwing Studio, Dome took the ethic of "using the studio as a compositional tool" and recorded and released three albums on their own label in the space of 12 months: Dome (1980), Dome 2 (1980), and Dome 3 (1981). A final fourth album, Will You Speak This Word: Dome IV was released on the Norwegian Uniton label in 1982. These albu…
Walks
Opt for the path less trodden — allow yourself to stray from it, even — and you might find, buried in the bracken, deep in the trees, a shining modernist monolith. Liquid as a mirror, glinting in the leaf-broken sun, it lies in wait off the beaten tracks of North Yorkshire, South Wales, or the A508 out of Milton Keynes. Or perhaps it is all of these places simultaneously and none of them: an amalgam of the wayside walks of the British Isles, accessed only by the maps of the mind. Heeding the cal…
Lua Onus
Nuno Loureiro disfigures sound into an array of urban memories. His music evokes an ambient sensitivity crafted from subtly ascending melodies, often eschewing the rhythmic beat. Sonic landscapes soaring in the stratosphere yet maintaining a grounded, soulful essence. Lua Onus sees Nuno Loureiro stepping into the light for the first time, shedding the anonymity of a moniker. The album, released on Superpang, takes pride in its minimalism, which proves effective in conjuring dreamlike experiences…
Vol. 1 & Vol. 2
An edit-reissue of this gargantuan double cassette released back in 2014 under the Typhonian Highlife moniker, 'H.R. Giger's Studiolo' finds netherworld voyager Spencer Clark at a particularly beguiling conjunction of his labyrinthine-esque soundworld. With complete disregard for linear timelines and trajectories, 'H.R. Giger's Studiolo' finds both inspiration in the swiss master's vision and the Cenobite iconography previously explored by Clark on Fourth World Magazine's 'Pinhead in Fantasia'. …
Valediction
Synthesizers, Tape Recorders and Analog Machines come together into an enchanting atmospheric album reminiscent of Eno´s, Jarre´s or Vangelis´ space-romantic compositions.
Outerlands
A quietly influential guru among electronic and experimental circles since the late '90s, Berlin based sound artist Hanno Leichtmann has been developing a sprawling and idiosyncratic vision both as a creator and curator. With a keen sense for charting new territories, Leichtmann's work spawns a multitude of languages that go from delicate ambient excursions to techno explorations or abstract sceneries on numerous sound installations, releases on such esteemed labels like Entr’acte, Karl Records,…
Umdrehen
*2024 stock* Edition DUR releases the new album "Umdrehen" by Thomas Fehlmann exclusively on vinyl. On "Umdrehen" he uses exclusively self-produced samples constructed with plug-in machines integrated in Ableton. He speaks of generative music in which chance plays a major role. It is important that a piece is not always processed further, but left unpolished. And there are 12 of them, stretching over two LP sides and forming new sound combinations into a breathtaking experience. With "Umdrehen",…
Atlas der Gedanken
*2024 stock* Mareena is a DJ and runs her own ambient label Unrush, and JakoJako, also a DJ, recently released an EP on Mute. Two years ago, they made a joint album "Atlas Der Gedanken" available digitally, on which the two artists dedicate themselves to their interpretation of ambient. For "Atlas Der Gedanken", JakoJako worked exclusively with modular synthesizers, while Mareena made music with digital production software. Their oscillating sounds and pulsating rhythms take us into the vastness…
