Klaus Schulze

Klaus Schulze was a German electronic musician, born in Berlin on 4 August 1947. He began as a drummer, playing on Tangerine Dream's debut Electronic Meditation (1970) and on the first Ash Ra Tempel album (1971) with Manuel Göttsching. His solo debut Irrlicht (1972) was built from a damaged organ and orchestral tapes; synthesizers and sequencers then took over on long pieces such as Timewind (1975). He joined The Cosmic Jokers sessions and Stomu Yamashta's Go, recorded as Richard Wahnfried, and from 2008 worked with Lisa Gerrard. His catalogue runs to dozens of albums. He died on 26 April 2022, and Deus Arrakis followed posthumously.
