Masahiko Togashi (1940-2007) was a Japanese jazz drummer, percussionist and composer, born in Tokyo. He was an early leader of free jazz in Japan, with his own group from the mid-1960s, and released We Now Create in 1969. An accident in 1970 left him without the use of his legs. He then played percussion only, returning to the drums in the mid-1970s with a kit he designed to play from his wheelchair. Masahiko Togashi grew up in a musical family and worked in the 1950s with Sadao Watanabe and Toshiko Akiyoshi.
