Two of the defining figures of Japanese free jazz, in duo. Masahiko Togashi was the drummer who continued after a 1970 accident left him unable to use his legs, rebuilding his entire technique around a modified kit and producing music of extraordinary delicacy and space in the process. Yosuke Yamashita came from the opposite direction: a pianist whose trio played with a physical violence that made European free jazz look restrained. Kizashi puts the two temperaments in the same room and the tension between them is the record. Silence against attack, patience against fury.
Japanese pressing on Next Wave. A summit meeting of the Japanese scene, and rarely seen outside the country.
