Trevor Watts

Trevor Watts is an English alto and soprano saxophonist, born in York in 1939, who has worked in free improvisation since the 1960s. He co-founded the Spontaneous Music Ensemble with drummer John Stevens in 1965 and later led his own groups Amalgam and Moiré Music, which brought rhythm and multi-drummer ensembles into his improvising. Watts started on cornet at twelve and moved to saxophone at eighteen. Amalgam, formed in 1967, recorded Prayer for Peace (1969) and Innovation, and he played in Barry Guy's London Jazz Composers' Orchestra.
