Felicita
“Whether it is traditional or contemporary, we need to be authentic,” says Gözen Atila who performs as Anadol. “I don't claim that I am authentic, but this is what I want to achieve.” A sense of authentic exploration, introspection and celebration coats every inch of Anadol’s latest album. After 2019’s Uzun Havalar, the Turkish artist returns with an album that continues to explore a variety of deeply embedded musical traditions while also hurtling into new terrain. The music and influences - a…

Issue 87: Wolfgang Flür (Magazine + 7")
The new ES issue, with a superb Wolfgang Flür seven-inch to accompany this issue too. It's pressed on white vinyl and it features two versions of 'Electric Sheep' – a maddeningly catchy tune and a definite highlight of 'Magazine 1'. Wolfgang takes on the role of a friendly android on the track, which sounds like the theme music of a TV advert in some utopian alternative reality. To seal the deal, he winds up with some key facts about sheep. "Earworms, right?" he says. "You cannot get them out!" …

The pair recall their formative years at length, a story which involves the extended sonic assault of audiences, monsters high on nitrous oxide, wardr…

Stone Stone Stone
*2023 stock* "This album, the first under the band's name in six and a half years, is a jazz alternative album with a multilingual and hardcore taste that differs greatly from previous albums.  The recording for this album started in June 2020, during a period when many of our activities were being cancelled due to Covid-19. It had been a while since I last met or played with the members of this band, with whom prior to the pandemic I would regularly get together for gigs at various venues or tr…
Houdini
2024 Reissue. Remastered directly from the original analog tapes. Pressed on 180gram black vinyl in a gatefold jacket. Comes in poly-lined inner sleeve. Signed to Atlantic Records in the hubbub after Nirvana's Nevermind (1991) exploded, the Melvins' fifth album Houdini was a conscious attempt by the band to make a record that wouldn't alienate their fans but that the band members themselves would also enjoy. Their best-selling release by a country-mile, this album crested at number 29 on the Bil…
