Jimi Tenor and a group of friends visited twice at Edward Vesala’s unique home (Sound and Fury Studio) in Korkeakoski in southwest Finland. It was winter 1998. Matti Knaapi and Jimi Tenor have been designing and building instruments since the early '80s. They brought vanful of apparatus to Sound and Fury which already had a large collection of Vesala’s exotic and self built instruments. During the two rather extreme sessions 13 songs got finished. The first part was released in year 2000. Sadly …

**100 copies** So picture the scene: mid-December 2011, a pub in Hoxton, full of happy Christmas drinkers, complete with festive screeching and merriment. Within this location, a more reserved group of three, but nonetheless still celebrating. Two stylishly dressed in black, with the third in a bright yellow neon hoodie. Talk turns to the first album neon hoodie wearer has submitted, for release in 2012 by the first stylish person, which has just been mastered by the second stylish person. Talk …
**300 copies** Ferns Recordings bless us with a due re-issue of Massimo Toniutti's Cava XI.XI.86, originally self-released on cassette by the author in 1987. In its original form, Cava XI.XI.86 was a concept album split into two parts, Side 1 formerly called Gravi (tracks 1-4) and Side 2 Le ghiaie (tracks 5-7). These recordings constitute the first part of an ideal trilogy that, passing through Km. Piccolo Cardine (1988), will arrive to Il Museo Selvatico (1991), which is widely considered as th…
New small repress available. This is a stunner! Inimitable percussionist Eli Keszler takes time out from 0PN’s ensemble to unfurl the incredible, dextrous rhythms and electro-acoustic jazz keen of his masterpiece, ‘Stadium’ - a spellbinding follow-up to his cherished ‘Last Signs of Speed’ LP and recent duties working on 0PN’s ‘Age Of’ and Laurel Halo’s ‘Raw Silk Uncut Wood’ sides. For us this is one of the defining albums of the year - an isolationist avant-jazz masterpiece that is a total must-…
Small repress available. An occupant of the present and thread to the past - a rare juncture between diverse polarities of experimental practice, from free improvisation and modern classical composition, to primitivism, electronic music, and extended techniques, for more than half a century Alvin Curran has stood as beacon in the landscape of organized sound. From his efforts within Musica Elettronica Viva, the collective which he helped found in 1966 with Frederic Rzewski and Richard Teitelbaum…
Tajak is a Mexican trio of psychedelia, drone and shoegaze, a powerful sound that has made them one of the revelations of psychedelia emerged in Latin America, which has led them to play in various international festivals. Ciclos represents the maturity of a sound and is an effort from the band to represent a path, going through the different facets of being, in a plane that transcends time. The trio chose to experiment with new ways of composing experiences. This album is a trip through the nev…
Edgar Valcárcel (Puno, 1932-Lima, 2010) was one of the most important composers in Peru. He belonged to a crucial generation centered around the 1950s, which also included César Bolaños, Leopoldo La Rosa, Celso Garrido-Lecca, Enrique Pinilla, and Francisco Pulgar Vidal. These musicians were responsible for introducing locally the new languages of the international musical avant-garde, in a meeting with the legacies of Peruvian native music, where the folkloric material was used under very free a…
New York based producer Marc Urselli had the idea to bring people together who had never met before and let that meeting of minds create beautiful soundscapes. Film director and musician Jim Jarmusch, Sonic Youth co-founder and guitarist Lee Ranaldo shared space with versatile drummer Balázs Pándi for a night session at Urselli's EastSide Sound studio in downtown NY. These are the unfiltered results. Absorbing instrumental patterns of cinematic sounds and improvised rhythms. No overdubs, no edit…
In October 2018 we took several recordings in and around Eddie Prévost’s home village of Matching Tye in Essex, where he has been living for the past fifty years. The majority of the pieces that made it to this LP took place in All Saints Church, High Laver, the burial site of John Locke. This fact was notable in the choice of title for this set of recordings, and it seemed necessary to put forward Eddie’s own take on Locke that he offered in our correspondences: “Scholars of Locke’s philosophy…
Over the course of the last few decades, Ingar Zach has been an important force in contemporary and experimental music. Through his solo percussion music, his regular bands Dans les Arbres, Huntsville and Mural, and countless other collaborations, he has redefined the role of percussion and expanded the possibilites of his instruments in a highly personal way. In his four solo percussion records, starting with Percussion Music released on Sofa in 2004, one can sense a clear material and formal d…
Sofa Music is thrilled to invite a new artist on board the Sofa catalogue with the adventurous album Undulate from the danish, Oslo-based artist Niklas Adam. When the Sofa team first heard Adam's music, there was no discussion about including the album in our catalogue. His music deserves to be heard: it's an album that grows on you with its complexity of beautiful and genorous sounds. It's a concert. It's a lecture. It's a drum solo, a homage to Tudor, an opaque invitation, it's a conversation …
Sofa is very proud to release the outstanding debut record of composer / guitarist Fredrik Rasten. In Six Moving Guitars, the stable sounds of justly tuned consonances are being «activated» by the different qualities of the movements of the guitars. The piece came out of the collaborative work between three dancers and three musicians. The group’s goal was to work with choreography and sound as a unity, erasing the functional differences between dancer and musician and focusing solely on the son…
Henrik Munkeby Nørstebø and Daniel Lercher met in the Czech country side in 2010, as part of an improvising orchestra comprised of Austrian, Czech and Norwegian musicians, and started working as a duo shortly after. Finding common ground in fine grained and slow pulsed music, the duo went through a research period, striving to develop a common material void of all things unnecessary, where the impact of acoustic and electronic sound elements were truly balanced. While Nørstebø refined his arsena…

It was recorded andmixed partially in Chantepie (France), Brisbane (Australia), Kotka, Helsinki and Turku (Finland). Muuton Koto's music is a colourful psychedelic folk; with a mix of sweet …
**75 copies** Rabid trio blasting out some smash and grab free muzak voodoo with deformed, blown-out grooves and brooding, midnight atmospheres that give you the same high-torque hairdryer treatment as you would get sat in the front row at a Cairo Free Jazz Ensemble gig or listening to a Vermonster LP full blast in a shipping container. Unsettling as it is invigorating, layers upon layers of elastic electronics and graceful keys lurking around - spectators to the reoccurring elephant seal deathm…
**250 copies** Improvised soundtrack to a non-existent Western, recorded in the late '90s by James Kirk, Nathan Thompson and Tim Cornelius. "Deep South kitchen-sink explorers have been circling the drain in counterclockwise fashion for at least half my life and yet I am still reduced to shameless gobsmackery in the presence of this sterling new collection of historic treasures. Committed live-to-tape in the comfy climes of a living room / recording studio / temple affectionately known as 'Canong…
**300 copies** Originally released on cassette by Corpus Hermeticum in 1994. All sounds by Alastair Galbraith and Bruce Russell. "New Zealand is on summer holidays all through the month of January. For some reason I had the house to myself, the wife and kids were elsewhere. Alastair Galbraith brought over some instruments and we plugged in a cassette recorder. We spent the sunny afternoon setting up combinations of instruments and seeing what happened. We had recorded the Concord LP the year bef…
