Mappa invited me to make a work for cassette release. At the time I was putting finishing touches to a work for CD that was the result of 3 years of collection, distillation, presentation and consideration. I had made a conscious decision to stop composing in favour of making work for installation and performance.
However, the idea struck me to make a ‚format-specific‘ piece. For many reasons the cassette didn’t excite me in the same way as vinyl or CD. But then I considered the compact cassette…
Limited edition of 70 copies presenting Nina Zivancevic a great writer and according to the recordings a great narrator and interviewer. Comes with insert of a photo taken at the time.
The acoustic situations presented in Ten-Room Banquet were constructed by hybridized processes. Their constituent matter explores relationships between an idea of synthetic and of « picked up reality ». Field recording, « sound-designed » spaces, performative situations, synthesizers, analog and digital studio manipulations... are used to experiment different approaches to audio perception. Through concrète compositions, a poetic narrative unfolds, from nervous collages to smoother sequences. Ta…
Artist and musician Rosa Barba paired up with drummer Chad Taylor for their first duo record, In a Perpetual Now of Instantaneous Visibility. Documenting a September 2019 performance and installation at New York's Park Avenue Armory, part of an invitation by pianist Jason Moran, the CD's two mesmerizing tracks clock in at over 30-minutes each. Patiently built as collaborative soundscapes, they feature Barba's unorthodox conjoining of cello and film projector in which she uses the celluloid as an…

On 9/11, Pulitzer Prize-winning cartoonist Art Spiegelman (creator of “Maus”) was in the immediate vicinity of Ground Zero, fleeing the crumbling World Trade Center with his family. He wrote In the Shadow of No Towers to illustrate the first-hand horror of that day, and the grief and disillusionment which followed. Inspired by Spiegelman’s book, guitarist/composer Marco Cappelli transforms it into a multi-media production. Actor John Turturro, a quintessential New Yorker, narrates the English v…
Morning prayer. Children playing. Cooking dinner. Singing a lullaby. The quotidian sounds that form our everyday experiences are those recorded in Tashkent, the capital of Uzbekistan, while visiting Mahallas. Following "Siberian Field Recordings", his recent dazzling cassette release on Second Sleep, and his contribution to the "MMXX" series on Matière Mémoire Éditions, we are glad to offer copies of what is possibily Carlos Casas' most 'hidden' release. Released on occasion of his cross-discipl…
** Edition of 300 ** Mark Vernon presents the second volume of his Sonograph Sound Effects Series – the follow up to the unexpectedly popular ‘Sounds of the Modern Hospital’ LP. This time the focus is on sounds of plumbing and sanitation: drainpipes, plugholes, leaks, squeaky taps and cisterns. Vernon has recorded many of the sounds from unusual perspectives, in extreme close-up scenarios, using contact mics or small binaural microphones to get into tiny inaccessible spaces. There is also a part…

* 300 copies * Trying to set musical events in a sculptural form, the Düsseldorf/Wuppertal based artist and musician Detlef Funder (a.k.a. Konrad Kraft), develops the temporary audio-sculpture. Knowing that a tonal event can never take the materiality of a real sculpture, Konrad Kraft attempts this special transformation with the help of various elements. Human imaginativeness, time, as well as the tonal event itself are the elements for the listener to form an individual audio-sculpture and to …

ɅV (phonetic transcription for ‹of› or ‹off›) is a vinyl record consisting of spoken words, which can be used as a DJ-tool to compose artifical dialogues. It makes use of 32 monosyllabic words on each side recited by two synthetic voices which were collected from the website of the New York Times and the Politically Incorrect subforum of the messageboard 4chan, thus mirroring two opposing extremes of current online debate in the materiality of an LP. Mixing two copies of this record in a DJ-setu…

**Moss Green vinyl, edition of 500 copies** "FUJI||||||||||TA, real name Fujita Yosuke, is a Japanese sound artist and pipe-organ builder, he provided us with one of the prettiest, weirdest records that passed over our desk last year, essentially a custom-built organ duet with a bat colony, recorded in a cave beneath Mt. Fuji. It’s now been remastsred by Rashad Becker (with whom Fujita will be collaborating on a performance for Issue Project Room next month) and captures a sound somewhere betwee…

** 2021 Stock. Sold-out at source ** 6th CANT release - recording by Katya Shirshkova "The Pond", homage to the work of the same name by Ben Patterson.
Katya Shirshkova: When I was 8 years old, Ben Patterson came to Irkutsk. They told me to show how I play Bach, and I did. Poorly. I also decided to play improvisation, unintentionally, I just got upset and played - I always liked to hold the keys and listen more. Ben liked it. He showed me a trick with a coin, I was scared. And dad became an hono…
Tip! Voce a vento represents the result of a choral, visual and performative intervention realized by Claudia Losi in the Cilento countryside in Southern Italy in 2018.
