Berkeley, and one of the more single-minded figures in American free music. Henry Kuntz spent the seventies publishing Bells, the newsletter that functioned as the connective tissue of the entire West Coast improvised music underground, and simultaneously making his own records for his own Humming Bird imprint with no thought of distribution whatsoever. His playing draws on Southeast Asian and Balinese music as much as on the American free tradition, using reeds, percussion and homemade instruments in dense overlapping layers. Private press documentation of a scene that largely refused to document itself.

Original Humming Bird pressing, minuscule run. Genuine outsider material, and one of the scarcer things in this sale.
