Very rare original and sole vinyl edition of the 1987 album on Sound Aspects Records featuring Malachi Favors and Billy Bang.

condition (record/cover): NM / VG+ (1" top seam split on top and cut-out hole)

May 1986, one day in a German studio, three men and a great deal of percussion. Kahil El'Zabar plays earth drums, sanza, berimbau, bass bamboo flute and ankle bells, Malachi Favors brings the bass and the AACM lineage, and Billy Bang saws away on violin with that astringent, unbeautiful, completely gripping tone of his. Another Kind Of Groove is trance music built by hand: long ostinatos, no drum kit in the conventional sense, melodies that circle rather than resolve. "Little Gwen" is named for El'Zabar's mother and is one of the most tender things any of them recorded. Several papers put it on their best-of-the-decade lists and they were right.

Original German pressing on Sound Aspects, the label that quietly documented a huge amount of Chicago and New York creative music through the eighties.
