Crawl Unit

Everyone Gets What They Deserve is a 1999 album by Crawl Unit, the name under which Joe Colley, a visual artist and composer based in Sacramento, California, recorded through the 1990s and early 2000s. Colley investigates audio phenomena with field recordings and electronics, and founded Povertech Industries, the Sacramento label behind earlier Crawl Unit albums such as Aftermusic (1994) and The Future In Reverse (1997).

The six pieces were composed and constructed in 1998 and 1999 at Studio For Regenerative Cosmetics in Sacramento, and the CD presents them as sound events. They run to about 56 minutes, from the opening Holy Static through the twelve-minute Untitled (Drone 2), Artificiality, Going Extinct and Residue Of Broken Data to the closing Flicker (Elapsing State Of Grace).

The album came out on Crippled Intellect Productions, the Chicago label that had issued the Crawl Unit 7" Soundtracks For Locations the year before, and whose aim was to present new experimental artists and bring back out of print recordings. In the Crawl Unit discography it sits between The Future In Reverse and Stop Listening (Ground Fault Recordings, 2000).
