Second copy of the Japanese Blue Note compilation of early Thelonious Monk - and early Monk is permanent stock in any shop that takes itself seriously. The 1947-52 Blue Note sides are angular, blues-soaked and decades ahead of schedule: compositions that musicians are still mining today, played by bands that included Art Blakey, Milt Jackson and other future giants figuring out this new world in real time. If the Riverside and Columbia years show the master established, the Blue Notes show the language being invented - and invention is always the most exciting part of the story. Same essential contents, fresh copy.
