Two 1971 gialli, and the second is the interesting one: Gli occhi freddi della paura (Enzo G. Castellari) was scored by Ennio Morricone with the Gruppo di Improvvisazione Nuova Consonanza, the free-improvisation collective he belonged to, and it is the closest he came to putting their concert-hall noise into a commercial film: scraped strings, prepared piano, trumpet shrieks, real terror. Giornata nera per l'ariete (Luigi Bazzoni) is more conventional but no less good.
Point Records' CD pairing is the standard edition. For anyone who has the Nuova Consonanza albums and wants to hear what happened when they were pointed at a screen.
