Marc-Alexandre Reinhardt: drums, electronics, piano, field recordings. Steve Bates: guitar, electronics. Plus guests, Burkhard Stangl (additional guitar, electronics), Toshimaru Nakamura (no-input mixing board), Sophie Trudeau (violin, electronics). Recorded and mixed by Steve Bates in Montréal, late 2012. Mastered by James Plotkin. For those who appreciate: This Heat, Yellow Swans, Magik Markers, no wave, New Zealand noise...For their second full-length release, Lanterner will work again with longtime Montréal label, Oral Records. This time the release is co-produced between Oral and Steve s newly minted, small-scale project, The Dim Coast. Lanterner returns with more songs balancing between improvisation and iterations of reoccurring themes. Noise, rock, drone and melodic spaciousness glide from track to track. The spirit of punk rock lurks in the background. This release features three guests on three tracks: Sophie Trudeau lays down textured violin drones on Eux, Tokyo s master of no-input mixing board, Toshimaru Nakamura smears his trademark hi and low pitched tones and textures across the title track, and Burkhard Stangl, Vienna s gentleman of the guitar adds his melancholic chording throughout Police bourgeoise aux dents.
"These songs Throb and Drift with a Lean Tension and pulsing, dreamt, attempt at escape(s), duly watched over by the still anxious ghosts of minutemen and This Heat... Spontaneous and driven, improvised and savored over." Stylus Magazine
